Provincial Trade Advisory Committees (PTACs) provide advice to the Provincial Apprenticeship Certification Board (PACB) regarding the level of skill and knowledge needed to practice a designated trade. They also provide information on current trade practices, new methods, emerging technologies, challenges in the trade and green strategies to ensure a designated trade stays up-to-date in the industry. This helps the PACB fulfill its responsibilities under the Apprenticeship and Certification Act. PTAC members include Red Seal certified employers, employees, and skilled trade instructors.
Who is on a PTAC?
PTAC members include:
- Two employer representatives who are Red Seal certified journeypersons in the trade.

- A Red Seal certified instructor from both public and private training institutions involved in delivering training for the trade.
- Non-voting members from industry, institutions, or government (as needed).
- a representative from the Standards and Curriculum Unit of ATCD.
What Do PTAC Members Do?
PTAC members use their expertise to advise the PACB on trade-related matters, including:
- Developing and reviewing curriculum standards and other important documents for the trade, such as the Plan of Training, logbook, tool and equipment list, and record of work experiences.
- Setting and validating trade completion requirements.
- Creating and validating Level and Provincial/Red Seal exams.
