A certified journeyperson is a skilled tradesperson who has mastered all the required skills for their trade, thanks to a combination of hands-on experience and formal in-school training. Once you are a certified journeyperson, you have the expertise to mentor an apprentice or validate on-the-job skills.
Certificate of Qualification (C of Q)
If you pass the certification exam, you will receive a Certificate of Qualification. If you are a registered apprentice and pass the certification exam, you will also earn a Certificate of Apprenticeship. Click here to learn more: Certificate of Qualification
Specialized Training
Specialized training courses are available through training institutions and unions, once approved by the Apprenticeship and Trades Certification Division. If you are interested in specialized training, it is best to reach out to the specific institution or union offering training in your trade. They will guide you on how to participate. Get Involved with a Provincial Trade Advisory Committee (PTAC), Examination Committee, or Accreditation Team
If you are a Red Seal or Provincially certified journeyperson, there are great opportunities to give back to your trade. You could help maintain apprenticeship standards in the province by joining a PTAC, examination committee or accreditation team.
