Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

Learnings from work, life experiences, or other types of formal training can sometimes count towards apprenticeship programs. This process, called “Recognition of Prior Learning”, helps turn prior experience and knowledge into progress toward getting certified in a skilled trade – either as an apprentice or a trade qualifier.

Have Recent Experience or Currently Working in the Trade?

Register as an Apprentice and get in touch with an Apprenticeship Program Officer to explore options.

Have Apprenticeship Status or Completed Training in Another Canadian Province or Territory?

An Apprenticeship Program Officer can help you figure out the next steps.

Are You an Internationally Trained Worker in a Skilled Trade?

You will need to follow the Trade Qualifier Process to have your skills and work experience hours formally recognized.
