Getting Your Certificate of Qualification (C of Q)

Pass the certification examination and you will earn a Certificate of Qualification. Registered apprentices will also receive a Certificate of Apprenticeship.

Recognizing Certificates of Qualification (C of Q) from Other Canadian Jurisdictions

  • Red Seal Endorsed or Provincial Certificate of Qualification: If you have a Certificate of Qualification from another Canadian province or territory, complete an application form. The Apprenticeship and Trades Certification Division will verify your information and provide an equivalency letter if you require one for your employer or a regulatory body.
  • Provincial Certificate of Qualification in a Red Seal Trade: If you have a provincial Certificate of Qualification in a Red Seal trade from another Canadian province or territory, and you wish to write the Red Seal exam, you will need to contact the apprenticeship authority that issued your certificate to request that they ask Newfoundland and Labrador to invigilate your Red Seal exam.

Recognizing Military Certification

If you have a military credential in a related Red Seal trade, contact an Apprenticeship Program Officer to have your credential recognized.

Recognizing Certification from Another Country

If you are certified in another country, you will need to apply as a Trade Qualifier to have your skills and experience recognized. Click here to learn more.

Fraud and Revocation

If there is evidence of fraud in obtaining a Certificate of Qualification, the Provincial Apprenticeship and Certification Board may revoke the certificate.
