Your Role as an Accreditation Team Member
Accreditation team members help review trade training programs to ensure they meet established standards and prepare students for success. This includes:
- Reviewing lesson plans and student work to ensure educational standards are met.
- Inspecting facilities to ensure they meet accreditation standards.
- Checking tools and materials to ensure they can support sufficient “hands-on” learning experiences.
- Assessing equipment to ensure it supports practical training requirements.
Your Responsibilities
- Attend scheduled site visits in person.
- Let Apprenticeship and Trades Certification Division staff know in advance if you are unable to attend.
- Review all provided documents before the visit.
- Participate fully and work toward team consensus.
- Keep all discussions and documents confidential.
- Support the team’s final recommendations.
Site Visit Details
- The number of visits required depends on the trade and number of training institutions seeking accreditation.
- Visits happen during regular government work hours and usually last a full day.
- Team members receive a $300 honorarium per visit and reimbursement for travel and meals (at provincial government travel rates – must submit a travel claim).
