Summary of Environmental Assessment Process
Project Description:
The proponent proposes to develop a sewage treatment plant in the Town of Stephenville on the south west coast of Newfoundland. The proposed facility will be located approximately 350 metres northeast of the Stephenville airport, adjacent to Blanche Brook. The development will consist of a sewage lift station, sewage treatment plant, chlorination chamber, de-chlorination chamber, outfall and associated sewage mains. The outfall will proceed from the treatment plant in a south east direction and will deposit treated effluent into St. Georges Bay. Access to the site will require the construction of an access road to be located off Massachusetts Drive.
- May 14, 2003 – The undertaking was registered.
- June 18 , 2003 – Public comments were due.
- June 28, 2003 – The Minister’s decision was due.
- January 22, 2004 – The Minister announced that the proponent has withdrawn the project.
