Project Description:

The proponent proposes to construct and operate a 20 MW wind farm at Burnt Ridge, near the Town’s of Elliston and Bonavista, on the Bonavista Peninsula. The proposed project is for eight (8) to fourteen (14) individual wind turbine generators (WTG’s) with an electrical power generation capacity of between 600 and 1,800 kilowatts (kW) each. The proposed WTG’s feature a conical tubular steel tower with a maximum hub height of 67 metres and a three bladed rotor with a maximum diameter of 80 metres. The proposed power generation will be connected to the grid as per Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro’s request for proposals. In 1997, Tackle Windpower Inc applied for the same Burnt Ridge site, however, the application has expired as the WTG’s were not constructed.

  • November 25, 2003 – The undertaking was registered.
  • January 1, 2004 – Public comments are due.
  • January 26, 2004 – The Minister released the project from further environmental assessment.
  • May 15, 2006 – The Minister accepts the pre-construction bird monitoring survey.
