Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The proponent has submitted a Five Year Operating Plan for Forest Management Districts 9 and 16 which are combined to form Planning Zone 7 as mandated by the new planning framework legislated by the Newfoundland Forest Service. Planning Zone 7 extends from Deer Lake in the west to Cat Arm in the north and includes all of the Baie Verte Peninsula . The Five Year Plan describes: past activities in the Districts; the proposed allocation of wood supply and forest harvesting; silviculture; forest road construction; forest protection, environmental protection measures; and, monitoring and research activities from 2007 up to 2011.

• September 18, 2006 – The undertaking was registered.
• October 24, 2006 – Public comments are due.
• November 2, 2006 – The Minister’s decision is due.
• December 27, 2006 – The Minister releases the project from further environmental assessment subject to conditions.
