Summary of Environmental Assessment Process

Project Description:

The amendment is for the establishment of the Old Witless Bay Line commercialoperating area into the current Crown Five Year Operating Plan for District 1 located onthe Avalon Peninsula. It is proposed that over the remaining two years of the Five Yearplan approximately 15-20 hectares will be harvested per year in the area underamendment. The amendment area is located on the Old Witless Bay Line andencompasses a total area of 318 hectares. The area contains mixed balsam fir-blackspruce forests and the areas harvested will be silviculturally treated post harvest using acombination of site preparation and/or planting. There is no new road constructionassociated with this amendment. Commercial harvesting activities will commence uponapproval and continue until the end of December 2011.
