Project Description:

The proponent proposes to develop a sand and gravel quarry located 15.5kilometres east of the Town of Wabush and 1.5 kilometres south of Route 500, theTrans Labrador Highway. The quarry area will be approximately 2 hectares in sizeand access to the site will be through an existing dirt access road. The area will bedeveloped as an open pit operation to produce concrete aggregates such as Class Aand B road material for general construction work in western Labrador. Processingof the material will be limited to excavation, crushing and screening and there will beno blasting involved. The operation will typically run between May to October and ithas a potential operating life of five years.

• March 9, 2011 – Public comments are due.
• March 17, 2011 – The Minister’s decision is due.
• April 1, 2011 – The Minister announced that the project is released.
