Project Description:

The proponent proposes to construct and operate an aquaponics facility at Pearltown Roadin St. John’s whereby Tilapia fish will be raised onsite and the effluent water will be used togrow vegetables. The project will test the feasibility of commercial aquaponics productionunder the Newfoundland climate with the aim to market both the greenhouse produce andfish. The facility will include the construction of a pre-engineered wooden header houseand pre-engineered greenhouse. Construction of the facility and assembly of theaquaponics system is expected to take approximately five months to complete.

• February 19, 2014 – The undertaking was registered.
• March 28, 2014 – Deadline for public comments.
• April 5, 2014 – The minister’s decision is due.
• April 3, 2014 – The minister announced that the project is released.
