Proponent: Island Propane Limited (Newlab Oxygen Limited)
Summary of Environmental Assessment Process
Project Description:
The proponent has submitted a proposal to establish a refurbishing center for domestic propane tanks in Newfoundland. This service currently does not exist in the province and would involve the exchange of propane tanks at local gas stations and retail stores whereby a customer brings an empty tank to the location and exchanges it. Each returned tank would then be inspected, de-labelled, cleaned, sandblasted, repainted, leak-tested and re-valved if necessary, re-sleeved and refilled at an existing facility in Donovans Industrial Park. This facility will require the addition of a 7.6 metre x 12.2 metre building as well as the installation of a paint booth. Construction would begin when all permits are acquired and the facility would operate from April to October annually.
