Proponent: Nunatsiavut Government and Natural Forces Development Limited Partnership
Summary of Environmental Assessment Process
Project Description:
The proponent proposes to develop a wind power micro-grid, approximately 2 km west of the center of the Town of Nain, to reduce the reliance on diesel generators. The project will consist of either a single Enercon GmbH E‐82 wind turbine or two E‐44 wind turbines and is expected to yield an approximate capacity of 1.8 – 2.3 MW. Additional components will include turbine foundations, battery system with foundation, crane pads for turbine installation, a pre-assembly area and overhead collector line to transmit power to the electrical grid. The site is currently accessible but will require a new access road to the turbines. Project construction is anticipated to begin July 2021 and commence operation in October 2022.
