The Department of Energy and Mines recognizes the importance of prospector training to the future success of prospecting within the province. The College of the North Atlantic has developed, in collaboration with Energy and Mines, a Prospectors Training Course (PTC) that can aid in the development of a skilled, competent, adaptive, and diverse prospecting community. Prospecting is an essential step toward identifying and realizing the mineral potential of Newfoundland and Labrador.
In early December 2025, the College of the North Atlantic opened registration for its third delivery of its combined online and in-field PTC. The course consists of seven online modules followed by a two-day, in-person practical component offered at four locations across the province (see hyperlink below for more details). Once both components are complete, participants will be eligible for Genuine Prospector Designation through Energy and Mines.
