Public Service Commission (St. John’s)
In the planning, implementation and continual redesign of the Graduate Recruitment Program, Anne-Marie McGrath has shown exemplary leadership and has transformed a "good idea" into a successful and innovative program that will positively impact the future of the public service and its next generation of leaders.
In just five years Anne-Marie has expanded the program from 5 to 30 positions, positively affecting every department and agency in government. As many graduates opt for permanent positions within the public service, the program objectives of recruiting educated professionals and promoting government as "the employer of choice" are being met and exceeded.
Anne-Marie’s innovative program design included individual goal-setting and mentoring by senior public servants. She also ensured excellent program evaluation by engaging all stakeholders - executive, supervisors, mentors and graduates - in ongoing feedback.
Colleagues have described her "unflagging good humour" and her "enthusiasm for her work". She has educated not only graduates but also departments, by identifying mutual goals and demonstrating clearly that they can be achieved.
Anne-Marie continually demonstrates understanding and respect for recruits, supervisors, mentors and sponsoring departments and agencies. In the words of one recruit, " Anne-Marie doesn’t only make outstanding contributions in leadership and valuing people, she embraces and embodies these ideals every day."
