Brenda Pike

2010
Department of Environment and Conservation

Brenda has taken her role of Administrative Officer at the Salmonier Nature Park and has evolved it into a multi-faceted and dynamic role with which to advocate and promote the Park. During her tenure as senior Administrative Officer, Brenda has flawlessly guided and mentored no less than six managers and interim managers.

Always welcoming a challenge, Brenda has single-handedly initiated most components of Salmonier Nature Park’s environmental education program, ‘Project Wild’, and oversees its delivery. She also coordinates the Park’s public relations and special events which include National Wildlife Week activities, Becoming an Outdoors Woman, and Avalon Nature Explorers, not to mention the school visitation program. Brenda is also the liaison with the Park’s support group, the Friends of Salmonier Nature Park. It is well known that any of these projects with which she is involved are impeccably presented.

Her dependability, reliability and infectious sense of humour are legendary within departmental circles. Even in the toughest of situations she wrangles up a smile. Brenda is known to be the bastion of strength to all staff and routinely mentors any of those requesting her advice which may range from a summer student to a seasoned manager. Affectionately known as the ‘Den Mother’, she has helped colleagues through many of life’s professional and personal highs and lows with her candid perspective and non-judgmental approach.

Her pleasant attitude and professional approach to all consistently provides a positive and well-received experience to all inquiries and her name is synonymous with the Park.

It is obvious to all those around her that Brenda is a tremendous asset to the Salmonier Nature Park, the Department of Environment and Conservation and to the public service of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Brenda is a great example of someone who thoughtfully strives to put her fine intrinsic qualities into action for a goal beyond any anticipated personal reward and for the shared good of the people around her and the wider community.
