Department of Education
David Murphy was the lead consultant for school development from 2003 to 2008. Under his leadership the Department of Education introduced a School Development Model, with a focus on student achievement that is second to none in Canada.
David’s vision for this model was for school administrators to be able to identify the strengths and needs of their schools and develop strategic action plans to develop their whole school community.
He worked tirelessly with school district personnel, principals and teachers to provide the necessary information sessions, training and professional development required to make province-wide implementation of this model successful. He inspired others to be committed to the process. The beneficiaries of his excellent work are and will continue to be the students of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Educators from across the province have commended his dedication and passion to his work. The School Development Model has attracted the attention of other Canadian provinces as well and will undoubtedly serve as one of Canada’s best examples of how to build effective learning communities and bring about significant change from the inside out.
Dave’s commitment to excellence and his professional approach is a shining example of how the public is served by dedicated government employees.
