For more than 22 years Ed Jackman’s work has garnered such descriptions as exemplary, creative, responsive, and integral to the organization. As a Client Services Officer with the Department of Human Resources, Labour and Employment he plays a direct role with community agencies such as the Salvation Army, Choices for Youth, Iris Kirby House and the Association for New Canadians. These organizations attest to Ed’s role in helping them provide sensitive, responsive service to the people they support.
Ed Jackman has an in-depth knowledge of the needs of the unique client base he serves. He is known for working innovatively within policy frameworks to solve issues for which answers are not readily apparent. Frequently, he assumes an advocate role to ensure that his co-workers, supervisors and others understand this need for creative solutions. One community agency praised Ed on his realistic approach and for going above and beyond what is expected of him. They said: “It seems as though Ed always has the answers, and when he does not, he finds them.
” Ed’s tremendous contribution to the broader community in Newfoundland and Labrador has enriched the lives of countless individuals. ”Ed embraces and embodies the qualities important to public service. On a daily basis, he tackles emergencies and crises. Despite these challenges, he remains calm, balancing priorities and, when needed, making spontaneous decisions that maintain the dignity of clients. He is known for his professionalism, his genuine concern for those whom he serves and his obvious commitment to the work that he loves.
