Department of Human Resources, Labour and Employment
For the past 15 years Bill Woodman has been a loyal and valued employee of the Department of Human Resources, Labour and Employment. Bill has a propensity for independence and resilience. Bill’s impressive aptitude for accounting practices and attention to detail did not go unnoticed and so in no time he was processing municipal taxes with the Department of Human Resources, Labour and Employment in Whitbourne.
By 2006, and due to some departmental restructuring, Bill was working out of the Carbonear office. With this move came greater responsibility. A realignment of Bill’s duties meant he was now the only person on the Avalon Peninsula to review and process Municipal Tax payments for regional Income Support recipients. Some problems existed with the old system which strained relationships with municipalities and caused extra work for staff. Bill found a solution to appease all concerned. He developed a series of spreadsheets which somewhat revolutionized payment processing and resulted in payments being received in a more timely manner. As a result, feedback received from towns is now positive.
The level of quality Bill brings to his position is exceptional and the numbers speak for themselves. It is estimated that in one fiscal year Bill’s meticulous accounting and admirable work ethic saved the department $200,000. When it comes to processing municipal taxes it is a testament to Bill’s stellar workplace reputation that his expertise is often sought after by managers in other regions.
Bill Woodman is an example of how personal resilience and affecting positive change can transform the workplace environment and inspire others.
