Eldred Barnes is known as a team player who provides excellent advice to his colleagues within the Department of Education. His humanistic leadership style has resulted in a higher degree of morale, productivity and efficiency. He is renowned for his innovative approach in partnering with other government departments and agencies.

Throughout his career in the public service, Eldred has demonstrated an unequalled work ethic and a total commitment to assigned tasks. His research, analytical and interpersonal skills have gained him the respect of all who work with him and have provided an open forum for input from the school districts in the province. He has also played an integral role in the development of initiatives and strategies such as the Healthy Students Healthy Schools Initiative, the Cultural Connections Strategy, the Futures in Skilled Trades and Technology Program, and the Excellence in Mathematics Strategy, to name a few.

Known for his student-centred approach, Eldred’s sincere desire to empower teachers to fully engage with the curriculum outcomes is evident, whether he is providing professional development workshops or teaching pre-service teachers. He is passionate about literacy and has guided countless committees encouraging them to consider excellence as an essential principle. He is a conscientious and caring individual whose leadership style is respectful and quietly motivational; he leads by exemplary service. Harnessing and recognizing the skills, capabilities and contributions of his co-workers has resulted in an inspired staff within the division he oversees.

Eldred has a great ability to balance immediate work demands with the need for a long-term, preventative approach to solving complex social policy issues. He is viewed as a selfless leader and is highly regarded by his colleagues for his breadth of knowledge, his tireless advocacy for quality education, and his professionalism in working with others. His genuine concern for student learning is evident in all of his endeavours and he is truly a steward of the province’s Kindergarten to Grade 12 programs.
