The Learning Resources Distribution Centre (LRDC) is responsible for ensuring that learning resources are continually available to students and teachers in all schools across the province.
There has been a tremendous expansion in volume and types of materials purchased and distributed by the LRDC in recent years. The team has been instrumental in assuring the successful introduction of key government initiatives by focusing on excellent service delivery while adapting to change. Some of the major initiatives that have benefited from the team’s involvement include: the Futures in Skilled Trades Program; Provincial K-12 Technology Education initiative; Laboratory Safety, Teaching and Learning initiative; a K-12 Physical Education/Physical Activity Equipment Purchase, and the free high school text book policy.
Formerly a ‘bookstore’ that sold and distributed textbooks for students and curriculum guides for teachers, they now order, receive, and distribute a multitude of materials and equipment including microscopes, chop saws, video-conferencing systems, crayons and everything in between. With the changes, however, they still maintain responsibility for the timely circulation of text books for grades K-12 and provincial exams.
The positive attitude that permeates the workplace at LRDC reflects the team’s knowledge that their work helps ensure quality educational opportunities for students throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. Over the years, teachers, students, parents and the public have received stellar service and support from the LRDC.
The ability to meet substantial change with an increase in productivity positions the team at LRDC as a model of excellence in government service.
