As director of water resources, Martin Goebel puts the collective interest of the people of the province above everything else. His leadership and technical guidance improved information sharing and communication with the public by reporting water resource-related information on government’s Web page and through other means.

Martin has also helped serve the public more efficiently by streamlining regulatory permits, ensuring that clients and the general public have one-stop service for obtaining permits. His impact goes beyond our province, as he is a founding member of the Canadian Dam Safety Association, which provides national guidance on the design and safety of dams.

Operating through consensus building, Martin patiently listens to the divergent views of staff, clients and the public. His abilities to resolve conflict and address competing interests allow him to be a successful leader. His unique initiatives in water resources management serve as reference models for other provinces.

Martin displays an exceptional level of imagination, creativity, innovation and organizational vision in providing service to his peers, clients and the public.
