Members of the National War Memorial Centennial Project Team are being recognized for their extraordinary collaboration and dedication to a historic initiative that honoured Newfoundland and Labrador’s military legacy through the repatriation and interment of an unknown soldier. The project demanded meticulous planning, seamless coordination, and a shared commitment to honouring the past with dignity and respect.

This once-in-a-generation project included three major components:
- Redesign and restoration of the National War Memorial site in St. John’s.
- International repatriation of an unknown soldier from Beaumont-Hamel, France.
- July 1 ceremony commemorating the soldier’s return home.

With participation from dozens of public service employees and strong partnerships across departments, governments, and borders, the project’s success is a testament to the strength of collective effort. The core
team demonstrated excellence in event planning, international protocol, construction management, communications, and stakeholder engagement.

From navigating complex logistics in France to ensuring the respectful interment of the unknown soldier at home, this team went above and beyond. Their work resulted in a powerful national moment that captured
the hearts of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians and Canadians, while preserving a site of deep historical significance for future generations.

Their achievement reflects the very best of public service: teamwork, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to honouring our heritage.
