Department of Environment and Conservation
Geoff Bailey, Jackie Young
Geoff Bailey and Jackie Young of the Parks and Natural Areas Division developed and implemented a new Campsite Reservation Service that went operational in 2007. Before 2007, the division only had the capacity to handle 2,000 reservations per year. With the implementation of the new service the capacity has increased dramatically. In 2009, over 9,000 reservations were processed, a remarkable increase of 450 per cent. The work of the Provincial Parks Campsite Reservations Service Team did not stop there. Ongoing support was offered by both team members in the form of support to provincial park staff, policy development, programming implementation, trouble shooting, customer service review, and training of call centre staff.
Geoff and Jackie are the integral link between park staff, the division and the contracted company which runs the reservation system. Accessibility and availability have always been at the core of the team’s customer service policy, inside and outside normal operating hours. It is because of their problem solving and organizational skills that customer service has risen exponentially.
Recently the team’s work was recognized by the Canadian Parks Council with an Award of Merit.
Newfoundland and Labrador is very fortunate to have the team of Geoff and Jackie providing exemplary service in our Provincial Parks.
