This team within the Department of Education developed the Provincial Testing Program with a view to improving student achievement so that our students perform as well or better than other students in Canada and abroad. The tests measure how well students have achieved the outcomes defined by provincial curriculum.
This program has made a significant difference in student learning in all classrooms, and has generated positive energy about what happens in the classroom, about teaching and learning and about student welfare and achievement. Student performance has improved and, as a result of the program, teachers are working to use test results as performance indicators and help students make significant gains in their achievement levels.
The development, administration, marking, analyses and reporting of the tests are complex. The overwhelming number of requests from districts and schools to provide teacher professional development is testimony to the success of this program. Teachers give the testing program top marks.
Through curriculum support, teacher professional development and improving the teaching and learning process, this team provides high-quality service to students, teachers, school administrators, school board office staff and the public. Team members exhibit exceptional leadership, dedication and passion for their work.
