Reg Hancock

Referred to as the main driver of communityeconomic development in the Labrador Straits area, Reg Hancock has proven to be an extraordinary employee and an asset to the provincial government.

He travels throughout one of the most isolated regions in the province assisting Regional Economic Development Boards (REDBs), other community-based organizations, and government staff on various issues relating to regional economic development. He has been a tireless leader involving the whole volunteer movement in Southern Labrador.

Working extensively with non-governmental organizations, developmental groups, municipalities, REDBs and business organizations, on an ongoing basis, Reg demonstrates the ability to understand the often seemingly conflicting objectives and functions of these diverse groups. His success is due to a high level of dedication, a strong ability to forge partnerships, and excellent leadership qualities.

Reg is an extraordinary motivator who leads by example. His contagious optimism has encouraged an entire region to reach far beyond its anticipated level to achieve success in all kinds of economic and social development issues. He takes no personal credit for the achievements in his community, but always manages to provide a way through a crisis for those who partner with him.

Reg is a person who identifies the problem, plans to address it, and implements that plan. He does not stop at the “ifs” but proceeds directly to the “hows” which is of paramount importance in economic development work.

Reg’s passion for the people in his region, accompanied by the drive and vision to lead a community to greater accomplishments, exemplifies the true nature of public service in this province.
