Regina Best

For nearly 19 years as Program Coordinator, Regina Best has nearly single-handedly run the Arts and Letters Awards Program, which is one of the oldest and most impactful programs within the Provincial Government. She works with a high degree of autonomy in administering this multi-faceted program that receives up to 1,000 submissions every year.

In the face of changing trends within an evolving cultural sector, Regina has been able to adapt and implement a re-design of the program that has been extremely well received. Her hard work had been credited with expanding the program and the steady growth in the range and number of awards. New awards in the youth, music and digital categories and new categories for French submissions have been introduced. Further, she was instrumental in establishing a partnership with The Rooms providing winners and nominees the opportunity to exhibit their work to the public.

Regina’s tireless efforts have led to an enhanced public profile for the program and participants through increased audiences and exposure. Under her direction, the program continues to discover new talent and provide these amateurs with a platform to showcase their work. She has overcome challenges associated with administering a province-wide program and reaching rural participants and students. Regina has been described as one of the greatest champions of artists working in the Provincial Government today.

Regina has been instrumental in raising the profile of Newfoundland and Labrador’s literary, music and visual arts communities. The commitment and vision she brings to this program year in and year out is why it continues to grow and adapt. A true leader, Regina has maintained the integrity of the Arts and Letters Program and has never lost sight of its true value.
