Rita Malone, as the Western Region Director of the Department of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development, directed a team of multi-skilled professional staff responsible for delivering a wide range of funding and non-funding programs and services. The success of this direction is the result of her high level of dedication, strong ability to forge partnerships and excellent leadership qualities. Rita was recently appointed assistant deputy minister responsible for regional development.

An innovative team-builder, Rita is known for her delegation of responsibility and decision-making to front-line staff as a way to better serve clients’ needs. The morale of her co-workers is exceptionally high, due in part to her close working relationship with employees.

Rita understands the objectives and functions of diverse stakeholder groups in developing big picture responses to the needs of the region and the province in general. She is often sought by officials of provincial and federal agencies for policy development. She has been influential in elevating the profile of her department as a result of the comprehensive level of service provided by her along with her staff.

Rita’s contribution to the public service in this province is a reflection of the value she holds for its people. She is an outstanding employee who leads by her actions.
