Department of Industry, Trade and Rural Development (St. John’s)
Since joining government in 1989, Rod Regier has established himself as a professional planner, economic development facilitator and manager. He has consistently demonstrated "exceptional performance", as well as insight into projects, programs and department strategies on a daily basis.
Beginning his public service career as an Urban and Rural Planner, Rod soon transferred his skills to economic development, quickly mastering new skills in financial management to complement his planning abilities, bringing an impressive array of skills to bear on projects, including establishment and integration of the Trinity Pageant into the Trinity region.
His most recent work, in concert with the Federation of Labour and the St. John’s Board of Trade, has been to research European models for economic development partnerships. His superb research and analysis has been instrumental in the recent announcement of the Strategic Partnership Initiative - a forum in which business, labour and government can build consensus on provincial economic issues and co-operate to meet challenges and capture opportunities at a strategic, province-wide level.
A thoughtful, hardworking person and exceptional communicator, Rod is an inspiration to co-workers. An adopted son of Newfoundland and Labrador, Rod has put his energy, intelligence and heart into understanding the situation and factors of every project - none more illustrative than the garden he envisioned, designed, planted and made flourish outside the office in Clarenville.
