Department of Education
As a Senior Industrial Hygienist with the Department of Education, Sean Casey protects the health and safety of school children, educators, custodians and all who frequent our schools. He accomplishes this monumental task through his commitment to excellence in service delivery, innovation in solutions and research, leadership through knowledge and inter-personal skills.
While dealing with all aspects of health and safety his major focus is with indoor air quality and hazardous materials management which requires a specific skill set and training. Through Sean’s 20-plus years in the industry, his experience and insight make him an essential resource when dealing with these issues. In fact, he is one of the most respected Certified Industrial Hygienists in the country.
Sean’s work has made a positive change in the way the Department of Education and school districts address and prevent indoor air quality issues. He is the single point of contact for departmental and district staff. A dedicated employee, Sean can be counted on to visit a site whenever, or wherever, needed. He has spent many evenings and weekends in schools assessing issues and helping administrators deal with situations as they arise.
A consummate professional, Sean has developed school inspection checklists, protocols, training programs, and other processes. These proactive measures are in place to help prevent and monitor indoor air quality-related issues and ensure that provincial legislation is followed. Since Sean has taken on this role, standard protocols have been developed to provide consistency across all schools in the province.
Sean’s constant desire to build on his knowledge through training and research opportunities exemplifies why the public service is lucky to have him on its team
