Sharon Bavis

Often the first point of contact for regional agriculture producers, Sharon Bavis is known for her friendly demeanor, enthusiastic approach, and depth of experience. Respected by colleagues, farmers, and industry stakeholders, Sharon demonstrates exceptional professionalism in her role as Clerk Typist III with the Department of Natural Resources, and has been called a champion for the agricultural community.

For more than 30 years, Sharon has been the frontline point of contact for the agriculture sector, and colleagues and farmers have come to rely on her initiative and creativity. Not only does she offer unique support to the industry in her daily duties, but Sharon continues to dedicate herself to promoting agriculture in the community, showing true leadership in event organization and development.

Her involvement in the Trinity Conception Fall Fair has been instrumental for more than three decades, and she is supportive of industry groups such as the Dairy Farmers – School Milk Program, and Federation of Agriculture – Agricultural Awareness initiatives. Over the last three years, Sharon developed an agricultural spelling bee for elementary school children, designed to bring a focus on agriculture into the classroom. The spelling bee is described is a “fantastic tool” to encourage children to study agriculture, educating them on agricultural terms, spelling, and meanings. Her work is engaging young people, and helping to promote the activities of the agricultural sector in this province.

Sharon is an advocate for youth education, and has consistently shown initiative by training and self-educating in order to keep up with technology and new programs. Being innovative and evolving with the industry has been part of Sharon’s approach from day one.

Sharon has been described as demonstrating “a selfless attitude, an exceptional work ethic with a persistent desire to go above and beyond the call of duty.” Through her passion and devotion to her work in the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, and in her community, Sharon clearly embodies excellence in public service.
