Transportation and Works
Harvey Regular, Terry Parsons.
On the morning of January 16, 2004, a winter storm whipped through The Beaches area. High winds and waves deposited large amounts of debris on the roadways. Eventually, the roadways could not contend with the battering, and they began washing away.
Harvey Regular and Terry Parsons continuously assessed the situation and worked tirelessly to keep the road clear. Despite a valiant effort, the rocks and debris were being deposited faster than the loader could remove it. By 12:00 noon, it was evident that the community would have to be evacuated, and they advised the residents that they would have to leave their homes. Terry’s pickup escorted by Harvey’s loader, made six trips into the community, transporting 13 people and one dog to safety.
In total, approximately 40 residents had to leave their homes that day until the next morning. These gentlemen went above and beyond the call of duty to ensure the safety of the people of The Beaches.
