From the earliest stages of the project, Team RuralEXPO demonstrated exceptional dedication and the keenest possible focus on their goal. Each and every member went beyond the call of ordinary duty to ensure the success of the EXPO, using creative teamwork to resolve the many challenges that cropped up unexpectedly, and never losing sight of the ultimate strategic objective of the project- business and community development for Newfoundland and Labrador.

Strong client focus governed all aspects of the team's dealings with EXPO participants. They worked to make everyone - exhibitors, youth, speakers, and the general public - feel at home and handled individual concerns quickly and professionally. They provided a calm and professional center that motivated volunteer staff and bolstered their confidence. With every problem solved and every detail followed through, Team RuralEXPO 2001 lived the ideal of valuing people.

The 2001 RuralEXPO presented significant challenges simply on the basis of scale. The team pulled together central elements of the "Getting the Message Out" and the "We're Doing It Right Here" programs, as well as the Economic Zone process, by gathering the players for a comprehensive showcase event to celebrate their successes and identify new opportunities. Their vision and their meticulous follow-through advanced the rural renewal strategy in very tangible, measurable ways.

The 2001 RuralEXPO attracted 120 exhibitors (most from rural areas) and some 2500 visitors. More than 80 nominations were received for the first annual C.E.D. Awards. 450 people attended the awards gala. The EXPO’s seminars and forums were filled to capacity. Team RuralEXPO delivered an event that generated pride and enthusiasm. They reflected the energy of our emerging rural economies. They showed creativity, diligence, and an unwavering dedication to fulfilling the vision of the project, which was to assist in developing Newfoundland’s vibrant rural communities and small business culture.
