Weston Hunt

Described as a relationship builder, a strong and visible leader and a problem solver, Weston Hunt has gone above and beyond his duties as a security guard to play a major role in significant, meaningful and positive changes to the Department of Transportation and Works’ Security Services Division.

When a new Security Services Division was created in 2010, Weston was part of an internal committee formed to develop a new policy and procedures manual to help security personnel better understand their roles and responsibilities. From the outset, Weston showed great leadership - consulting with other employees to identify the key functions of security for the Confederation Complex, collaborating with the Human Resource Secretariat to define work flows, and aligning security policies and services with the operational needs of departments and agencies. Ultimately, he developed draft policies that would become the first ever Security Services Policy and Procedures Manual which was issued in the fall of 2013.

Weston then went on to play an integral part in the re-development of the Card Access System for the Confederation Complex. He worked with the Transportation and Works’ ID Coordinator, the Office of the Chief Information Officer and a private contractor to find solutions to unique challenges associated with the project.

After helping to identify a need for a re-branding of Security Services, Weston again showed leadership serving on the teams that developed new shoulder flashes and improved uniforms for security personnel.

With a solid work ethic and unwavering belief in the value of providing professional and courteous service, Weston has been a catalyst for positive change. As a result of his leadership and vision, he has helped to clarify security policies and procedures, enhance safety and building security and create a more visible, professional and respected security service for the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador.

For his leadership, relationship building and contribution to organizational change Weston is being honoured.
