Production of safe food on the farm is important to ensure food safety hazards are minimized. At the present time, there are both mandatory (required by law) and voluntary programs.
Mandatory Programs
Voluntary Programs
National commodity groups are working with both industry and government to develop Canadian On-Farm Food Safety (COFFS) programs. COFFS are commodity-specific programs at various stages of development. The programs are auditable under the national commodity group’s Management System and are based on the internationally recognized Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) principles.
