About the Simulator
The Newfoundland and Labrador Population Projections Simulator is being offered so that users can observe the sensitivity of population projections to changes in key assumptions over the 2025 to 2044 time period.
The main factors that determine population trends over time are the total fertility rate and net migration. This simulator allows users to choose from five different assumptions for the total fertility rate and seven different assumptions for net migration. To provide some context for the choices available, historical charts for Newfoundland and Labrador’s total fertility rate from 1974 to 2024 and net migration from 1971 to 2024 are provided below.
For further information on historical changes in Newfoundland and Labrador’s fertility rate and net migration see
Demographic Overview.
The results, for the total population, are displayed in chart form. A schematic of the components of population change as well as definitions are available in the Definitions section.
