NOTICEPostal Service Disruption – Tax Filing RequirementsDue to the ongoing Canada Post strike, the Department of Finance is encouraging ALL taxpayers to register for e-filing, to help avoid any future delay in the filing of their tax returns. All tax returns remain due at their normal filing deadlines, with no extensions granted on account of the Canada Post strike. Any late filed returns will continue to result in late filing penalties and interest accruing to the taxpayer’s account. This notice pertains to all tax returns falling under the purview of the Revenue Administration Act, along with all other tax legislation administered by the Department of Finance, including the following programs:
Remitters are advised to contact TaxRegistration@gov.nl.ca or call (709) 729-6376 for further information relating to the e-file registration process. Tax returns and payments can also be remitted through courier or by dropping them off to the Central Cashiers Office via the Mailroom or the Drop-box in the Visitor’s Entrance at the Confederation Building. Please note that statements of account will be held pending the resolution of mail delivery. Potential Telephone ScamThe Department of Finance has been made aware of a telephone scam targeting employers. A caller advises the recipient to send their HAPSET payment to a Hotmail email address. This call is in no way connected to the Provincial Government. The Department of Finance advises the public not to respond to this fraudulent phone call. HAPSET and other tax payments are made either by cheque or money order, payable to the Newfoundland Exchequer (instructions for this are included on the tax returns provided to taxpayers), or by tax e-filing/electronic funds transfer (Tax e-Filing – Finance). |
The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador offers a number of tax credits, incentives and benefits programs to individuals and businesses.
