Individuals who have a mental illness may be eligible for housing services such as board and lodging financial assistance (relatives and non-relatives), life skills/transitional supports, case management, recreational services, respite or home support.

Community Care Homes
Community Care Homes are privately owned and operated facilities that provide residential support for individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. These homes are located in Eastern Urban and Rural Zones. Community Care Homes are licensed and monitored by NLHS under the Provincial Personal Care Home Operational Standards (revised 2007).
The Community Care Home Program is a NLHS department under the Division of Long-term Care and provides psychiatric services, case management and therapeutic recreations services to voluntary residents residing in the Community Care Homes.
Client Criteria for The Community Care Home Program
- Individuals must agree to placement in the Community Care Program (voluntary participation) and be willing to live cooperatively with others.
- Individuals must be at least 18 years of age remembering that the majority of Community Care Residents are middle-aged to senior.
- Individuals must have a primary diagnosis of psychiatric illness or concurrent disorder.
- Individuals must meet the criteria for Level One Care as per Department of Health and Community Services Regulations. There are also homes within the program with Enhance Care Licensure-based on psychiatric needs.
- Individuals must be eligible for a financial subsidy or in agreement to privately pay for service.
