What Is Foreign Credential Recognition?

Foreign Credential Recognition (FCR) is the process of checking your education, skills, and experience from another country to see if they meet Canadian standards for working in your profession.

Before you start working in a regulated job, your credentials must be reviewed and approved. We recommend starting this process before you arrive in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Regulated versus Non-Regulated Jobs

In Canada:

  • Non-regulated jobs do not require a license or certificate.
  • Regulated jobs (like healthcare or skilled trades) do require a license or certification.

In Newfoundland and Labrador, many jobs are regulated. That means you’ll need to meet the requirements set by a regulatory body before you can work.
