Correctional Officer Recruitment Training (CORT) Program
A comprehensive 18-week training program designed to prepare you for a rewarding career in adult corrections.
- Duration:
- 10 weeks of in-class training
- 8 weeks of on-the-job training
- Paid Training: Earn a student wage for the duration of the program
- Schedule: 40 hours per week (some evening/weekend activities may apply)
- Demands: This is a physically and mentally demanding program; a high level of fitness and psychological readiness is required
Application Process & Requirements
To be eligible, you must:
- Be 19 years of age or older upon course completion
- Hold Canadian citizenship
- Have valid driver’s license and passport
- Provide a birth certificate
- Submit a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
- Complete an enhanced security background check (required for selected applicants)
- Submit a current resume and cover letter
- Highschool diploma or equivalency
Recruitment Process
We use a holistic, multi-stage approach to assess applicants:
- Interview
- Conducted in person or virtually
- Correctional Officer Physical Abilities Test (COPAT)
- Target time: 3 minutes and 20 seconds before graduation
- Applicants with times in the 4-minute range may still be considered
- COPAT demos available online for preparation
- Fit-for-Work Medical Assessment
- Includes vision, hearing, physical, and psychological assessments
- All evaluations conducted by a third-party provider
Please note: Completion of all stages does not guarantee acceptance into the Winter 2026 CORT Program. However, qualified applicants not selected will be given priority consideration for future intakes.
