Newfoundland and Labrador Corrections is seeking motivated and community‑minded individuals to apply for the Correctional Officer Recruitment Training (CORT) Program, which is a paid, structured pathway to becoming a Correctional Officer within the province’s Adult Correctional Institutions.
Please note: The Summer 2026 CORT Program will be delivered in Goose Bay, Labrador to support staffing needs within Labrador’s correctional facilities. Successful graduates will be offered employment as a Correctional Officer in Labrador.

About the CORT Program
The Correctional Officer Recruitment Training (CORT) Program is a comprehensive 18‑week paid training program that prepares participants for employment within Adult Corrections.
Program Structure
– 10 weeks of in‑class training (Goose Bay, Labrador)
– 8 weeks of on‑the‑job training
– 40 hours per week (some evenings or weekends may apply)
– A high level of physical and mental readiness is required
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
– Be 19 years of age or older upon course completion
– Hold a High School Diploma or equivalent (e.g., CAEC, ABE Level III)
– Be a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident
– Possess a valid driver’s licence (no restrictions) and a valid passport
– Provide a birth certificate
– Provide a Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check
– Complete an enhanced security background check (for selected applicants)
– Submit a current resume and cover letter
Recruitment Process
The recruitment process uses a multi‑stage assessment approach, including:
Interview
Conducted in person or virtually.
Correctional Officer Physical Abilities Test (COPAT)
– Target time before graduation: 3 minutes 20 seconds
– Applicants with times in the 4‑minute range may still be considered
– Preparation videos are available online
Fit‑for‑Work Medical Assessment
Includes medical, physical, psychological, vision, and hearing assessments. All evaluations are completed by a third‑party provider.
Please note: Completion of all stages does not guarantee acceptance into the CORT Program. Qualified applicants not selected will be given priority consideration for future intakes.
