Regulations are rules set by government that support the law. Regulatory best practices help ensure that these rules are fair and clear. The provincial government works with other governments to simplify regulations for people and businesses. Simplified regulations make it easier and faster to work with government. Simplified regulations also help companies do business in multiple provinces and help people to work across Canada.
Our office supports the use of regulatory best practices by working with other government departments to determine the impact of any new or modified regulations. The impact of a regulation is measured through a Regulatory Impact Analysis.
Regulatory best practices are enforced under the law through the Regulatory Accountability and Reporting Act.
Our clients include government entities, agencies, boards and commissions, and other stakeholders in the province. From the fiscal years of 2019-20 to 2023-24, the division completed a total of 126 projects. The subject matter of these projects can be classified into sectors which reflect the work of Government. The regulations that exist to deliver services to people and businesses are also classified into similar sectors. The public engagement and consultation projects of Government have an impact on the programs, policies, and legislation related to the mandates of core government departments, agencies, boards, and commissions.
