The Honourable Andrew Parsons, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Environment, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.
UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:
Grand Falls-Windsor Wastewater Treatment Facility Expansion
(Reg. 1986)
Proponent: Town of Grand Falls-Windsor
The proponent is proposing an expansion of the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor’s existing wastewater treatment facility. The project will provide new infrastructure to address both future increase in wastewater flows requiring treatment as well as to improve the effluent quality. The expansion of the facility will include the addition of a wastewater aerated pond system that would incorporate two to three new aerated cells, an ultraviolet (UV) disinfection treatment system and a sludge management system.
The undertaking was registered on October 2, 2018; the deadline for public comments is November 8, 2018; and the minister’s decision is due by November 16, 2018.
ENVIRONMENTAL PREVIEW REPORT GUIDELINES ISSUED:
Lark Harbour Multipurpose Trail Extension (Reg. 1954)
Proponent: Lark Harbour Trail Committee Inc.
The minister has approved the final guidelines for the preparation of the environmental preview report (EPR) for the Lark Harbour Multipurpose Trail Extension. The EPR guidelines identify the information that the proponent will be required to include in the EPR. On September 12, 2018, the minister advised the proponent that an environmental impact statement (EIS) is required for the project. An environmental assessment committee (EAC) has been appointed to provide scientific and technical advice to the minister and to prepare draft guidelines for conducting the EIS.
