The Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Recreation, was at Elizabeth Swan Park in Clarenville today, to announce almost $667,000 in support of annual operations, professional assistance and high performance projects for 44 Provincial Sport Organizations. In addition, approximately $85,000 has been invested to assist 13 provincial sport organizations to purchase equipment and other supports that assist athletes and coaches.
The minister was joined by Greg Pittman, board member with SportNL, Randy Manning of the Newfoundland and Labrador Volleyball Association and Rebecca Russell of the Clarenville Minor Hockey Association.
This annual funding is approved to Provincial Sport Organizations through an application-based process. Approvals are granted upon review of the provincial sport organization’s initiatives and progress in areas such as sport participation, organizational effectiveness, coaching and officiating and sport excellence.
Funding is also provided to purchase equipment and other supports that assist athletes and coaches, such as scoring systems, landing mats, tackle bags and more.
