Through Newfoundland and Labrador’s continued work with the Government of Canada, as well as the other provinces and territories, showing proof of vaccination and QR codes is easier for residents who travel to other parts of the country and for those travelling to the province.
The NLVaxPass is now accepted by all provincial and territorial verifier applications, except New Brunswick. Individuals from Newfoundland and Labrador are able to use their NLVaxPass or the Canadian COVID-19 proof of vaccination QR code as proof of vaccination. People can show their QR code using NLVaxPass or a photo of the QR code saved to a mobile device, a printed copy, or the full page PDF of their Canadian COVID-19 proof of vaccination. While New Brunswick is not currently able to accept the NLVaxPass, work is ongoing with that province.
Also, NLVaxVerify is now able to scan the following COVID-19 vaccination record QR codes:
- Canadian COVID-19 proof of vaccination; and
- Provincial/Territorial QR codes (except Manitoba).
Residents of Manitoba can only use their Canadian COVID-19 proof of vaccination QR codes.
Canadian travellers who are fully vaccinated with a Health Canada approved vaccine can show their Canadian COVID-19 proof of vaccination or provincial or territorial proof of vaccination QR code to access businesses and activities where proof of vaccination is required. Businesses and organizations are to use NLVaxVerify to scan QR codes. NLVaxVerify is the only approved app to use in Newfoundland and Labrador to scan any proof of vaccination QR code, including QR codes from other provinces and territories.
Newfoundland and Labrador is not able to accept out-of-province medical exemptions. If you received one or two doses of a non-Health Canada approved vaccine followed by an mRNA vaccine, you will be required to show your official vaccination record.
Businesses and organizations must accept the following proof of vaccination:
- Electronic COVID-19 vaccination record QR code using NLVaxPass;
- Physical copy of COVID-19 vaccination record QR code;
- Physical or electronic copy of official vaccination record issued in Newfoundland and Labrador;
- Physical or electronic copy of official vaccination record issued outside of Newfoundland and Labrador; or
- Proof that an individual has received an approved medical exemption from a physician or nurse practitioner in Newfoundland and Labrador.
You must also show identification.
If you use your official vaccination record as proof of vaccination, it must clearly indicate that you are fully vaccinated (14 days since your last dose).
There is detailed information available on the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador proof of vaccination website, which includes a frequently asked questions page.
