The Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:

Foxtrap Incinerator Road NORM Storage and Decontamination Facility                                                     (Reg. 2166)
Proponent: Pardy’s Waste Management and Industrial Services Limited

The proponent is proposing to construct a facility for the decontamination and temporary storage of equipment from offshore industry that may contain naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM). The facility would be constructed at the proponent’s existing location at 267 Incinerator Road, Foxtrap. The NORM material would be managed for trans shipment to an approved final disposal location in Western Canada. Construction would include the installation of a fence, underground storage tank, containment sump and concrete pad for the decontamination chamber and storage vault. Decontamination would take place inside a steel container. Construction is estimated to take three months.

The undertaking was registered on August 18, 2021; the deadline for public comments is September 23, 2021; and, the minister’s decision is due by October 2, 2021.

Port Kirwan Sheep Abattoir                                                                                                                                                      (Reg. 2165)
Proponent: Aylward’s Farm

The proponent proposes to construct and operate an abattoir to process their own livestock at their existing 40-hectare sheep farm. The farm is located on Shute Lane in Port Kirwan, on the Avalon Peninsula. Construction would include the installation of water and septic services.

The undertaking was registered on August 18, 2021; the deadline for public comments is September 23, 2021; and, the minister’s decision is due by October 2, 2021.
