The Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Environment and Climate Change, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.
ENVIRONMENTAL PREVIEW REPORT REQUIRED:
Tors Cove Seal Processing Plant (Reg. 2156)
Proponent: Ár n-oileán Resources Ltd.
The minister has advised the proponent that an environmental preview report (EPR) is required for the project. The EPR is necessary to address deficiencies in the registration document including a description of the water supply for the facility, plant operations and potential odour and noise emissions. The proponent is required to hold a public information session prior to submission of the EPR. An Environmental Assessment Committee will be appointed to provide scientific and technical advice to the minister and to draft guidelines for the proponent in preparation of the EPR. The public will be invited to provide comments on the EPR upon its submission.
APPEAL OF MINISTER’S DECISION:
Southern Bay Blue Spruce R.V. Park and Campground (Reg. 2135)
Proponent: CamKap Software Development Group Inc.
The minister has received a number of appeals of the decision on July 7, 2021 to release the project from further environmental assessment. Under the Act, an aggrieved person has up to 60 days to submit an appeal of a minister’s decision and the minister has up to 30 days from the receipt of an appeal to respond. The appeal documents can be viewed on the Department of Environment and Climate Change website at www.gov.nl.ca/ecc/projects/project-2135/.
