Today, the Honourable Bernard Davis, Minister of Environment and Climate Change is recognizing World Cleanup Day taking place tomorrow, September 18.
World Cleanup Day was established in 2018 by the global organization Let’s Do it World and takes place in over 150 countries with approximately 50 million volunteers. The day is aimed at reducing waste and debris on land and in the marine environment.
This week, Minister Davis joined students at East Point Elementary to clean up the area surrounding the school, and to talk about the importance of keeping the environment both on land and in the ocean clean for future generations.
The Provincial Government is committed to environmental protection and net-zero emissions by 2050 and has taken action on all 45 items in its Climate Change Action Plan. The actions are working to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions, stimulate clean innovation and growth, and build resilience to climate change impacts.
Through Budget 2021, funding was announced for two new green initiatives, the Oil to Electric Rebate Program and the Electric Vehicle Rebate Program. Applications for both programs are now available.
Quote
“We all have a role to play in making our environment cleaner by ensuring our communities and marine waters are free of garbage and debris. World Cleanup Day and every day, we should all take time to remove trash and other items from our properties, local trails and beaches. Every piece of litter removed helps make our province more sustainable for the future.”
