Nominations are now open for the Council of the Federation Literacy Award, presented annually by premiers from each province and territory to recognize outstanding achievement, innovative practice and excellence in literacy.
This year, nominations are being accepted for the category of Adult Literacy Learner to recognize an individual who has faced difficulties in life due to issues with reading or writing in English, and who has taken steps to improve these skills to prepare for post-secondary education and/or employment.
Award recipients for each province and territory will be announced in September 2021 with the Honourable Andrew Furey, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, presenting the award to the deserving local winner. Individuals can nominate themselves or anyone else for the award.
Nominations are due by no later than May 31, 2021 and requirements can be found here.
The Council of the Federation was established in 2003 by the 13 premiers in Canada to acknowledge the leadership role that provinces and territories play in revitalizing the Canadian federation.
