Media Advisory: Premier Furey Participating in Events in Corner Brook

The Honourable Andrew Furey, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, will be in Corner Brook tomorrow (Friday, June 11) to participate in three events. He will be joined by the Honourable Lisa Dempster, Minister Responsible for Indigenous Affairs and Reconciliation.

A ceremony to raise the Grand Council flag of the Mi’kmaq Nation will take place at 10:00 a.m. at Corner Brook City Hall, immediately followed by a ceremony to raise the Grand Council flag of the Mi’kmaq Nation at 11:00 a.m. at Grenfell Campus of Memorial University.

The grand opening of the Mikwite’tm Garden will take place at 2:00 p.m. at the Majestic Lawn, Church Street. The garden commemorates missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls and is a project of the Qalipu First Nation and its partners.

At the invitation of Memorial University’s Grenfell Campus and the Qalipu First Nation events at Grenfell and the Mikwite’tm Garden are open to media.

Public health guidelines will be in place.
